Dhani Matang Dev established Barmati Panth in the Meghwar community in the 10th century CE. He was born in 887 on the banks of the Ganges river at Patna in the present-day Indian state of Bihar. He is discussed by Mamaidev in his writings. Matang Dev was the son of Matrarishi and his mother was Jashdedevi, daughter of Gautama Maharishi. His only recorded sibling is Thakaro.[citation needed]
