Originally from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and born in the mid 1990s (1996) Diana Von Grüning [1] is an award winning fashion designer, model and actress that became a pret-a-porter (ready-to-wear) fashion designer at a young age, Debuting her second official collection live nationally on CTV’s popular talk show The Marilyn Denis Show in 2013 – she was 17 at the time of debut[2]. Subsequently Diana attended George Brown College in Toronto for technical fashion design and upon graduating went to work with Global Fashion Week on numerous projects, choosing to keep her legal name to represent herself and her brand in the fashion industry.
In 2014 Diana starred in Viral Film “Too Quick To Judge” [3] by Time Vision Productions for Toronto International Film Festival It aired on Thursday, 19th March 2015 and won the award for best short-film at the Toronto Short Film Festival 2015.[4]. Diana has stared in numerous short films and music videos since her first public appearance,[5] such as the well known video collaboration with Canadian Music Producer Dav-Eh. She contributes regularly as both a runway and editorial model for a large variety of fashion designers internationally.
With the mentoring support of the Toronto Fashion Incubator and Enterprise Toronto, in 2017 Diana launched the Von Grüning headquarters to design and entirely manufacture the collection of luxury leather handbags.[6]. With in-house manufacturing, Diana owns one of few accessory brands that still manufacture in Canada.[7]
Fashion Career[edit]
As the founder of her own private designer label Von Gruning which releases season collections, Diana is still the known Creative Director of the brand - which has been known for its high-profile collaborations on seasonal collections regularly with other Canadian private labels and participate in collaborative efforts as part of larger design teams. As well as regularly actively participate in numerous Fashion Week events globally. Although Diana and her company have specialized in leather accessories specifically since 2015, the brand has been known to release a single pret-a-porter (ready to wear) micro-collection annually for a limited time during Toronto Fashion Week.
Acting Career[edit]
Diana's First work as an actress was starring in short film for Toronto International Film Festival 2014, 'Too Quick To Judge' where she portrays a deaf woman who's unaware of a man trying to get her attention at a park. The film has been translated into 20 different languages including Arabic, Chinese, Italian and more and has over 8.3 Million views on Youtube. The film won first place at the Toronto Short Film Festival in 2015. Afterward, Diana starred in popular Canadian Music Producer Dav-Eh's Music Video filmed and Producer by Mara Moja Productions [8]
Early life[edit]
Diana participated in a diversity of sports while attending Alternative Catholic School in Toronto - including softball, soccer, American football and cross-country however still always showing interest in the arts – as her mother reported in an interview with Canadian Broadcasting network CTV. At 14 years old Diana began exploring the possibilities of discipline with a basic model sewing machine which soon lead to the investment of a high-end embroidery/sewing machine to advance her skills. Diana worked a variety of jobs as a youth but took great pleasure helping those creatively while teaching basic to intermediate sewing classes and working at the Canadian Fabric Distributor Fabricland until she quit to pursue full-time entrepreneurship after graduating college.
