Von Grüning is a Toronto based fashion design house, founded in 2011 by Diana Von Gruning [1] . The popular design house focuses on the use of re-purposed leather from upholstery companies in order to create high end leather handbags., Von Gruning uses re purposed leather in products as part of the companies mission statement.
Von Gruning initially specialized in couture with heavy embroidery and pret-a-porter clothing as shown on its first public debut on CTV's Marilyn Denis Show on September 13th 2013. The show aired live nationally across Canada and featured 3 pieces from the second Von Gruning Collection as well as a live appearance and interview of Creative Director, Diana debut[2]. The company began to develop leather hand bags in 2015 and in 2016 it discontinued as a clothing label and continued entirely as a leather handbag and accessory label.
Creative Director and founder, Diana attended college at George Brown College for fashion techniques and design in Toronto, Canada in September 2015 and shortly after discontinued the label as a clothing company and proceeded to push the label forward as a leather accessories line specializing in the use of re-purposed upholstery leather. Von Gruning’s e-commerce site [3] was developed in 2016. The Brand produces all of its pieces in-house and does not outsource to manufacturing facilities overseas.
With the support of the Toronto Fashion Incubator and Enterprise Toronto in 2017 the Von Gruning headquarters was established and opened to the public as a studio and retail space in Toronto in order to manufacture and produce the brand's products as well as commissioning the studio space out to other designers in order to promote Canadian manufacturing in the fashion design industry. Founder and Creative Director Diana Von Gruning did a public interview upon the opening of the Von Gruning headquarters in which the direction of the company was discussed at the beginning of Toronto Fall/Winter Fashion Week. [4] Von Gruning has participated in 8 Global Fashion Week events, including accessorizing runway shows as well as numerous pop-up shops[5].
