Biography

Diana Winter was born in Florence in 1985 to an Austrian mother and Italian father.. She grew up listening to the classical music played by her pianist mother and at an early age began studying classical and fingerstyle guitar under M° Nuccio D'Angelo.

She studied voice privately and was able to acquire an extensive practical knowledge of Afro-American musicality through M° Pastor Nehemiah H. Brown and his Florence Gospel Choir School. While at High School she produced her first Ep original tracks and was a participant at Sanremo Rock Festival and also composed background music for small plays performed at the Greek Theatre of Palazzolo Acreide (Syracuse, Sicily) and the Lorense Theatre of the Fortezza da Basso in Florence. She graduated with a high school diploma in classical studies, after which she worked in Italy, England and Belgium on her first solo album composing the music and lyrics with the production of Fabio Balestrieri (Larry Dunn, Stephen Bray, George Benson, Tom Jones, Giorgia) and Phil Gould (Level 42).

At the age of 21 she collaborated with: Toots Thielemans, Phil Gould, Yolanda Charles (Hans Zimmer, Robbie Williams, Rolling Stones), Mike Lindup (Level 42), Miles Bould (Sting), Neil Black (Soft Machine) and others.

The next year the album “Escapizm” came out with the Warner label, masterized by Martin Giles (Depeche Mode) at the Alchemy Soho in London. It was presented at a sold-out “Blue Note” in Milan, followed by a promotional tour on the national radio networks, along with concerts and showcasing in Italy, England, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. She opened the Orchrestra di Piazza Vittorio concerts, and in 2007 when Giorgia featured her in her track “Vieni Fuori”, she declared that she had found “a pearl”.

She performed the main song of the soundtrack of Beatriz Martinez-Gatell's film “Essayette” (Britain, 2008) and collaborated with Giorgia again on the remake of the track “La Gatta”. At the age of 24 she was Giorgia's sole vocalist on her "Spirito Libero" tour and also later at the concert-event “Amiche per Abruzzo” (Friends for Abruzzo) in the San Siro Stadium of Milan.

For several years she lived in England and The Netherlands as well as Italy and earned a degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Florence.

In 2012 she was Giorgia's back-up singer during her "Dietro le Apparenze Tour". She appeared along with Giorgia on the Radio Italia Live show, Wind Music Awards 2012 at the Arena di Verona and the videoclip of the double platinium record's single “Tu mi porti su”.

In 2013 she participated in the first Italian edition of the TV program “The Voice” (Rai 2) where she became a favorite with both jury and audience, after which she published her single “Voglio fare un errore” for Universal. After that she opened for Paola Turci, followed by an intense period of live concerts in Italy and UK, an invitation for a guest appearance at the Heraclea Awards, and also as a jury member at several music contests.

In England she collaborated with the international London collective Bongosaloon (Phil Gould, Benn Locker, Alex Gould, Mark Neary, Jeremy Stacey, Ash Soan, Carl Brazil) and in ensemble with Wally Badarou, Yolanda Charles, Mike Lindup, Paul Stacey, Sumudu Jajatylaka and others, recording in various studios in London as well as the Chale Abbey Studios (Isle of Wight).

She received a degree in High Level Artistic Vocal Training at the Alma Mater University of Bologna directed by Franco Fussi and Silvia Magnani with a thesis published in the records of the X International Conference “The Artistic Voice”.

She made a guest appearance at the charity events Nicco Day at ObiHall and the National Family Doctor Convention at Teatro Puccini (both in Florence) for the compaign against domestic violence.

She published her second album of original songs, "Tender Hearted" (2015) with two released singles produced by Fabio Balestrieri with the collaboration of Phil Gould (Level 42), Neil Black (Soft Machine), Rupert Brown, Al Slavik, and the artists Noumeda Carbone and Arash Irandoust, followed by concerts in Italy, England, Austria and The Netherlands.

In 2016 she was a winner in the “Tuscany 100 Band” Contest organized by the Tuscan Region with a project of concerts in support of centers for protection of women from violence.

She was the vocalist and acoustic guitarist on Noemi's "Cuore D'Artista" tour, also accompanying her in several events such as Anlaids, Bellisoni Awards (Rai 1), the concluding concert of the 2017 World Guiness Record, 2017 Earth Day, Prima le Ragazze -The Girls First (Rai 1), 2017 Italian Golf Open, Uspidalet Onlus, Taranto's May 1st 2018, Concluding Ceremony of 2018 A-Series Football League at Rome's Olimpic Stadium, 2018 Wind Summer Festival, 2018 New Year's Eve concert for Catania.

Since 2016 she has participated yearly as a guest at the Meeting for Human Rights with the schools of Tuscany at the Florence Mandela Forum.

She is an endorser for Iqs Strings, Eko Guitars and Magrabò Straps.

She is a Tutor and creator of the Song-writing Project "Mai in Silenzio" (Never in Silence) for Musical Lyceums with the aim of contrasting gender violence promoted by the Tuscan Region, and was a jury member in the following song contest together with Irene Grandi, Tommaso Brunori and other artists.

She was a vocalist and acoustic guitarist in the "Domenica In" Orchestra (Rai 1) directed by M. Luigi Saccà for the 2017/2018 season.

She had a cameo part in the Santa Cecilia Conservatory's show on Italian futurism in music, “Futuristic Piedigrotta” followed by a seminar on methodology for artistic research held by the Orpheus Instituut (BE) and a Masterclass on choir directed by M. Mats Nilsson.

She was again Noemi' s vocalist and guitarist on her 2018 "La Luna Tour", accompanying other guest stars like Arisa, Morgan, Fiorella Mannoia, Gaetano Curreri, Paola Turci.

She has participated in events supporting Rome's International House for Women together with Noemi, actresses Paola Cortellesi, Jasmin Trinca and other artists on the Roman scene.

She is a supporter of the ONLUS Association Tennis in Pink for the fight against breast cancer as well as a participant in the event "Together Against Racism" organized by the municipality of Florence and the Tuscan Region.

She is teaching in the Advanced Modern Voice course at the Lizard Academies and at the Saint Louis College of Music .

She earned a Master degree with 110 points “Cum Laude” at the Didactis department of Rome's Santa Cecilia Conservatory.

She hosted the XXII Meeting for Human Rights commemorating the hundred years since Nelson Mandela's birth. She collaborated with producers Ricky Quagliato and Momo Riva, and is an active supporter of "Officine Buone", a project that brings music artists in italian Children's Hospitals. She just finished touring with Giorgia again in the "Pop Heart Tour 2019"

Since 2019 she is a live resident artist at “Teatro del Sale” in Florence and teaches at the Saint Louis College of Music in the Popular Music department.

In 2021 she featured as a vocalist in various tracks of Phil Gould’s album, including single “Beautiful Wounds”. Published dissemination and research works on Music Off, Siing Magazine, Donne Capovolte.

In 2022 she took part in the international program PrlhME, sponsored by the European Association of Conservatoires, performed at the “Una Nessuna Centomila” concert and was guest of Drusilla Foer on Rai2.

In 2023 she took part in the production of Drusilla Foer’s album, published three solo tracks, was guitarist and vocalist for Giorgia’s Tour “Blu” in concert halls and opera theatres, took part in the concert event “Italy Loves Romagna”.
