Dibro tinplate tank circa 1959

Dibro, the trading name of Dickinson Brothers, is a company established in 1933 in Liverpool, UK which has been involved in manufacturing in several sectors from its establishment and into the 21st-century.[1]

History[edit]

The company was established in Liverpool in 1933, by Ewart, Harry, and David Dickinson and was initially involved in printing and the production of stationery.[1]

During World War II the brothers were involved in the war effort and the business was leased to a rival company as there was no family member available to manage it.[1] Post-war, due to a lack of raw materials, the firm moved into manufacturing and sold the printing business, using the proceeds to purchase new premises. The newly re-established firm began by making small metal toys, including for Woolworths.[1] As well as miniature vehicles, the range also included toy shop equipment (such as scales etc.) and a toy pocket watch.[citation needed]

A Dibro tinplate toy is exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum's Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, London, UK.[2]

In 2013, the company was incorporated as a Private limited company (PLC). As of 2019, the company was registered at Companies House with the nature of business shown as glass manufacture (including technical glass).[3]
