Dick Gelael (10 September 1934 – 4 September 2014) was an Indonesian entrepreneur and owner of PT Gelael Supermarket (supermarket business), PT Fast Food Indonesia (Kentucky Fried Chicken), and PT Multi Food Indonesia (Swensen ice cream).
Early life
Dick Gelael was born on September 10, 1934.
Business career
He founded a supermarket with a delivery service to customers' homes in 1957.
At that time, Gelael was only 23 years old. The supermarket was managed by his wife, Elizabeth Gelael, for the first time on Jl. Falatehan 1 No. 35, Jakarta.
Towards 1960, at the age of 27, Dick Gelael began a friendship with Mohammad Rasjid Thamrin and Rudy Tanudjaja Saputra. These two businessmen finally agreed to cooperate with Dick Gelael to open a supermarket which was later known as Gelael Supermarket in 1970.
In 1978, he bought the business license of Kentucky Fried Chicken. [1]
Death
He died on September 4, 2014. He was buried in San Diego Hills after he breathed his last at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital Funeral Home, Jakarta. After his death, KFC is now managed by one of his grandchildren, Sean Gelael. [2]

He has 3 children. His grandson, Sean Gelael, is a racer. [3]
