Dick O'Brien was a racing manager for Harley-Davidson from 1957 to 1983. He oversaw the development of the Harley-Davidson XR750.[1]
History
In 1957, O'Brien was hired by Harley-Davidson as racing manager, and when the head of racing retired later that year, O'Brien took over the role. Under his direction, Harley-Davidson dominated the late 1950s and early 1960s AMA Grand National Series with Carroll Resweber.[1]
In the face of competition from British and Japanese factory teams, O'Brien oversaw the development of the XR750, which became a consistent winner in the AMA Grand National Series. O'Brien was also involved in Harley-Davidson's motocross, desert racing and land-speed record programs.[1]
