Career[edit]
In 2020, he was the first person to cross the United States from South to North on an electric motorcycle made by Harley Davidson.[4] In 2021, he became the first-ever electric motorcycle rider to go on a Cannonball Run challenge on an electric motorcycle, establishing the 1st time on this race.[5]
Electric vehicle history[edit]
Diego joined the EV movement in 2013 when he acquired a Nissan Leaf for his daughter.[6] Shortly thereafter he acquired a 2014 Tesla Model S as his daily commuter. He also has owned Ford C-Max Energi and Chevy Volt plug-in hybrids.[7][better source needed]
Electric motorcycle history[edit]
In June 2020, Cardenas made his first attempt to cross the country on his 2020 Harley Davidson electric motorcycle. He completed a run from the Mexican Borderline to the Canadian Borderline during the Covid19 pandemic.[8] He was able to ride a distance of 1400+ miles using the west coast electric highway, which is an extensive network of electric vehicle (EV) DC fast-charging stations located every 25 to 50 miles along Interstate 5, Hwy 99, and other major roadways in British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, and California. The initiative is a collection of projects, funding sources, and partners with the same vision—to provide a network of fast-charging stations enabling electric vehicle drivers to make longer trips and travel between cities.[9]
The Washington State Department of Transportation led the charge in Washington. The Oregon Department of Transportation heads up efforts in Oregon. California Governor’s Office interagency group coordinates charging investment in California. Plug In BC, a collaborative among government and industry partners, is the information hub for British Columbia.[10]
In July 2021, Cardenas made the 1st attempt for a cannonball run challenge on an electric motorcycle by Harley Davidson.[11] His attempt started the morning of July 1 from the Portofino Hotel and Marina in Redondo Beach, CA, and ended on July 8, 2021, in the Red Ball Garage, in Manhattan New York.[12]
