Dieu Donné Paper Mill (Dieu Donné) is a cultural 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving established and emerging artists through the collaborative creation of contemporary art using the process of hand papermaking.[1]
History[edit]
Dieu Donné was founded in 1976 at 433 Broome Street by Susan Gosin and Bruce Wineberg to explore the untapped potential of hand papermaking as an art medium.[2] Dieu Donné introduces artists from a wide variety of practices to the creative possibilities in hand papermaking, fostering experimentation and creating innovative works of art. In July 2007 Dieu Donné relocated to 315 West 36th Street. In 2017, Dieu Donné expanded its gallery and studio to the Brooklyn Navy Yard.[3] In late October 2018, the Jordan D. Schnitzer Gallery opened.[4]
Programs[edit]
Lab Grant Residency[edit]
The Lab Grant Program is a residency program designed to provide mid-career artists from all working practices with the opportunity to work in-depth in hand papermaking to produce landmark work in the medium. Artists drawn from all working practices are awarded this residency through a selection process, and are invited to work collaboratively with master papermakers, exploring a new medium at a juncture when working rituals and art making practices have been established.
