Dijon Carruthers is an American drummer who was the first drummer to play in thrash metal band Megadeth.[1]
Early life
He is the son of actor Ben Carruthers[2] and the brother of Caine Carruthers of ska band The Untouchables.[3]
Career
Megadeth
The band, whose lineup at the time initially included Carruthers, former Metallica guitarist Dave Mustaine, bassist David Ellefson, singer Lor Kane and guitarist Greg Handevidt, rehearsed in Hollywood and Glendale as a five piece not long after connecting in early 1983.[4] Carruthers left the band in the summer and was replaced by Richard Girod, who played on the bands' 1983 demo.[5] He returned in the fall and persuaded the rest of the band to take on new vocalist John Cyriis.[6] After Carruthers left for a second time "in fall of 1983",[7] reportedly after lying to the band about his heritage,[8] the band briefly played with Brett Frederickson, who was with Megadeth in November 1983.[9]
Mustaine developed the lyrics of Black Friday after speaking with an acquaintance of Carruthers who was heavily into the occult.[10] Carruthers was also credited with inspiring the lyrics of the song Bad Omen.[11]
