Dr. Dimitrios Baltzis (Greek: Δημήτριος Μπαλτζής, Ierissos, 1976) is a Greek doctor and diabetologist.He currently serves as the head of the Diabetes Clinic in Mouwasat Hospital, Dammam, Saudi Arabia.[1]

Education and career[edit]

Dimitrios Baltzis was born in Ierissos, a small town near Mount Athos, Greece in 1976. He attended Medical School at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and graduated as a Doctor of Medicine in 2003.[2] After his residency as an internist at the General Hospital Papageorgiou of Thessaloniki, he continued his training in Diabetes at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.[3][4] Baltzis also completed his PhD on diabetic neuropathy, myocardial ischemia and diabetic wound healing at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.[5] For his PhD he won awards from European Study for Diabetes Association (EASD) and the Hellenic Association for the Study and Education of Diabetes (HASD).[6][7]

Research area[edit]

Baltzis has worked on diabetic complications, diabetic neuropathy[8] and wound healing.[9] and the effect of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy in improving cardiovascular function in diabetic patients.[10]
