Dina Siegel Vann

Dina Siegel Vann (July 1, 1957 - present), is a researcher, nonprofit organization leader, and activist. Vann was born in Mexico City, Mexico, although she immigrated to the United States in 1966 at the age of nine[1]. She currently lives in Washington, D.C., where she is the Director of the Latino and Latin American Institute of the American Jewish Committee (AJC)[2][3].

Personal Life[edit]

Dina Siegel Vann was born on July 1, 1957 to Reuben and Lillian Siegel. Vann was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico.

Education[edit]

Dina Siegel Vann received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Tel Aviv University where she graduated as Magna Cum Lade followed by a Master's Degree in Public Relations from Syracuse University School of Public Communications[1].

Awards[edit]

Dina Siegel Vann has received several awards including the Civil Rights Award from the Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism (2014), the Order of the Civil Merit Awards (2016) from King Felipe VI of Spain, and the National Ohtli Award (2016)[1].

Latin America[edit]

As an immigrant to the United States from Mexico City since 1996, Dina Siegal Vann has spent extensive time making an effort to develop a connection between Latin America and the diplomatic corps, U.S. government officials, Congress, the media, and representatives of non-governmental organizations that concern themselves with Latin American affairs. Her efforts have fostered conversations mainly addressing Latin American issues of democracy, pluralism, and human rights.

She has traveled to and from Latin America consistently to foster relationships with political contacts there. Due to her work and efforts, the Latino and Latin American Institute awarded Presidents Ricardo Lagos of Chile and President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia with the 2005 and 2007 Light unto the Nations Award.[3] Siegal Vann also sits on the Advisory Board of the U.S.-Mexico Foundation. Prior to her current position, she served as UN and Latin American affairs director for B’nai B’rith International.[4]

United States[edit]

Dina Siegel Vann serves currently as director of the Latino and Latin American Institute of the American Jewish Committee in Washington, D.C. She successfully organized the first Latino-Jewish Leadership Summit in Washington in March 2001, in addition to the National Conversation on the State of Latino-Jewish Relations in 2013. In terms of her contributions to print and media regarding Latino-Jewish relations, she is interviewed frequently and a consistent source of information.

Siegal Vann also sits on the Advisory Board of the U.S.-Mexico Foundation. Prior to this position, she served as UN and Latin American affairs director for B’nai B’rith International. Before this, from 1982 to 1996, she served as a political affairs director for the Mexican Jewish Community.[4]
