Dinah Mulholland (born 1962) is a Welsh Labour Party activist, and Ceredigion candidate for the 2017 General Election.
Early life[edit]
Born and raised in London, Mulholland studied at the Polytechnic of North London for a BA in English Literature. During this time, Mulholland became involved in student campaigns - including supporting the 1984 Miners Strike; Anti-Apartheid Movement; and marched against extreme-right groups such as the National Front and the BNP.
Campaign work[edit]
After University, Mulholland contributed to the TUC’s Unite Against Racism Campaign.
Since moving to Ceredigion in 1995, she took up the role as the “Awareness Raising Coordinator” for the Aberystwyth Women’s Aid group;[1] Inaugural Chairperson of the Ceredigion Domestic Abuse Forum;[2] and co-founded the women offenders’ charity - BirdWord. [3][4]
Political career[edit]
After the 2015 General Election, Mulholland joined the Ceredigion Constituency Labour Party. Mulholland stood for election to the Ceredigion County Council as a Welsh Labour candidate for Llangybi ward in the 2017 Ceredigion Town and Council elections. She was was one of only two candidates to stand in the ward and drew a total of 173 votes. [5] Mulholland was the first Labour Party candidate in her ward since the early 1980s.
In April 2017, Mulholland was selected as the Labour Party candidate for Ceredigion.[6]
Personal life[edit]
Mulholland moved to Wales in the mid-1990s. She is currently a single parent living with her family in Lampeter.
