Dirigo Public House is a restaurant in Yarmouth, Maine. It made international news in July 2016 when it produced a 100-pound beefburger for charity.
History
Dirigo Public House opened in July 2015, in the location formerly occupied by Oscar's New American, which closed the previous November.[1][2] Chef and co-owner Benjamin Grant, who runs the restaurant with his wife, Katie, formerly owned the Bad Dog Deli in Scarborough, Maine, initially running both concurrently before selling the deli.
The restaurant expanded its number of draft beer lines to sixteen in the summer of 2017, around the time of the business's second anniversary. Twelve months earlier, to mark its first birthday, the restaurant made a 100-pound beefburger (70 pounds of meat; just over 30 pounds of toppings). A portion of the proceeds was donated to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.[3][4][5][6][7]
Portland Press Herald’s food critic Andrew Ross named Dirigo's regular burger "Maine's Best Burger" of 2016.[8]
Each month, the beers of a different brewery are featured.[9]
Logo
The restaurant's logo features a depiction of the North Star inside a variation of a design Katie Grant did for an early brewery collaboration. Dirigo is Latin for "I lead", a statement worn on the back of the servers' T-shirts in the restaurant.
