David Guerrero (born October 19, 1973) is a man who has been missing since April 6, 1987.[1][2][3][4]

Disappearance[edit]

The last time that Guerrero was seen was at 6:00 pm, after he had arrived home from school. A half-hour later he later changed his clothes, and left for his interview, which was at a religious art exhibition at a prestigious La Maison art gallery, Guerrero had earlier complained that he was very nervous about the interview, and according to a classmate, also complained that he had stomach pain and well as a headache.[5] When he had left his home in Malaga, Spain, as he had planned to take a bus to attend the painting exhibition he never showed up for the interview. When at 9:00 PM, Guerrero's father José arrived at the art academy to take his son home, but then discovered that his son never showed, he also then found that he wasn’t at home either. Seriously concerned he then drove to the police station to report his son as missing.[6][7]

Investigation and aftermath[edit]

Massive searches by the poilce were were conducted to find Guerrero, but none were successful, and when Guerrero's family and friends were questioned no information turned up.[8] Guerrero was reportedly seen in Lisbon, however police were unable to locate him.[9] Police do think that someone may have befriended Guerrero as well as convincing him to run away. It is believed that he may have been taken by a network of art forgers, who when discovering his talent thought they could use him as he was a extremely talented painter. There was a suspect, a 70-year-old Swiss man staying at a hotel in the city where Guerrero lived between March and April 1987. A woman working at the hotel stated that she saw Guerrero with that man.[10] Also a caricature of a man resembling the suspect was found in Guerrero’s room. All the information pointed toward Switzerland, but when the police followed the trace, there was again no evidence of any kind,[11][12] also the suspect died in 1990.[13] Guerrero's father died in October 2015, and the situation has forced the rest of Guerrero's family to request that Guerrero be formally declared dead.[14][15]
