Disciple Now

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Disciple Now (or DNow) is an event within evangelical Christian youth ministry. Elements of the event vary from church to church, but Discple Now is focused on four key elements.

  1. Homes & Small Groups: Youth are grouped together in small groups, and these small groups stay at the homes of adults within the congregation, often the permanent leaders of the small groups, for one weekend.
  2. Discipleship Oriented: From the DNow website: "Whereas some retreat weekends are more about getting away and hanging out (which is NOT a bad thing), DNow Weekends put a high premium on discipleship."[1] Youth receive sermons from the speaker in large group sessions. In small groups, they then talk about the meaning of the message and how to apply it. It is often the biggest event of the year, with close to a thousand students.
  3. Church/Community Focused: Most DNow weekends are hosted at the home church of a youth group, as opposed to a far-away retreat center, and the breakout small group sessions are hosted at homes in the community.
  4. Service Opportunities: Many churches harness the power of a large, energized youth group by taking part in service projects during the DNow weekend.

Youth leaders from other areas are often brought in by the hosting church to teach Bible studies in small groups. Sometimes small groups may join together for worship services at a central location. Typically, these worship services are very high energy and often feature a worship band.
