Biography[edit]
Khashiem initially wanted to be an astronaut. Her father encouraged her to apply for work as a pilot when she was in school. In 2016, she was one of an estimated 4,000 women out of 130,000 pilots worldwide.[3]
On February 23, 2016, Brunei's National Day, Khashiem served as Senior First Officer along with Captain Sharifah Czarena Surainy Syed Hashim and Senior First Officer Sariana Nordin, flying a Boeing 787 Dreamliner to Saudi Arabia as the first all-female flight crew for Royal Brunei Airlines.[4][5] The destination of the flight also brought attention to restrictions on women in Saudi Arabia.[3][5][4][6]
