Thor was born in 1981 in central Vienna. After attending the grammar school Schottengymnasium, he studied economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and the London School of Economics. His doctoral thesis project was the implementation of a novel SME segment at the Vienna Stock Exchange.[4] He received his PhD in economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business at the Institute for Capital Markets in 2005 at 25 years old. He subsequently was recruited by his alma mater as a lecturer for SME economy alongside renowned colleagues such as Christoph Leitl.[3] In addition to his business education, Thor obtained a master's degree in pharmacology at the University of Florida.[5]
Business career[edit]
Dominik Thor started his business career as an investment banker at the Raiffeisen Zentralbank in Vienna. During his banking career, he held international executive positions such as vice president at the National Bank of Liechtenstein, and Director at the Semper Constantia private bank.[6] Thor also worked in industry as head of M&A at the Salzburger Aluminium Group (SAG), a world market leader in aluminium processing.
He then progressed to founding his first venture, a digital bespoke fashion retail company.[7] Thor further got involved in several Blockchain projects around IP protection directly working with leading IP organizations such as WIPO and major international patent offices.[8][9] As a distinguished IP and blockchain expert[10] He served as an invited speaker at the European Commission IPR Helpdesk Annual Event: Digital Transformation - IP and Blockchain Technologies[11] and the OECD Blockchain Policy Forum.[12] Thor was also featured on the US television series Advancements with Ted Danson.[13]
While digital exponential technologies were his primary focus Thor recently broke new ground with several biotech startups. His most widely publicized venture is the viennese biotech company Tomorrowlabs where he also serves as the CEO.[14] The company was founded in 2016 together with the physician Dominik Duscher on basis of the patent-pending HSF ("HIF strengthening factor") active ingredient intended to regenerate skin and hair.[15][16] Tomorrowlabs was able to attract an illustrious round of investors including the German TV presenter Nina Ruge, the former Linde CEO Wolfgang Reitzle and Swiss billionaire Michael Pieper, currently number 804 on the Forbes list and one of the 10 richest Swiss.[17][18]
