Don Anderson is an American attorney and politician, currently serving as the mayor of Lakewood, Washington.

Education[edit]

Anderson earned his B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Puget Sound and Juris Doctor from the University of Puget Sound School of Law (now the Seattle University School of Law). Anderson served as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Navy from 1978 to 1981.[1]

Career[edit]

Anderson was an attorney with Eisenhower Carlson PLLC in Tacoma, Washington for 36 years, leaving to serve as Senior Counsel to the Pierce County Executive, Bruce Dammeier.[2] Anderson was elected to the Lakewood City Council in January 2008, and became mayor in January 2013.[3] Anderson succeeded Claudia Thomas, the first black woman mayor of a Washington city.[4]

In 2013, Anderson lead the City of Lakewood in a lawsuit against the Washington State Department of Transportation to prevent the construction of a new Amtrak rail line. The track was later the site of the 2017 Washington train derailment.[5][6][7]

Anderson stood for reelection to the Lakewood City Council in 2019.[8]
