Donald Trump has summed up his hair preparation as "I wash it, I comb it and set it and I spray it, and it's good for a day." He also uses hairspray. In a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone, he said that "I get a lot of credit for comb-overs. But it's not really a comb-over. It's sort of a little bit forward and back. I've combed it the same way for years. Same thing, every time." During a speech for his 2016 presidential campaign in June 2015 he said that he would change his hair style if he gets elected.

For the 2010 film Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps the production team and hairdressers had to sign a contract not to touch Trump's hair.

In the 2013 episode WrestleMania 23 Trump bet his hair for a win of Bobby Lashley against the hair of Vince McMahon, betting for Eddie Fatu, in a Hair vs. Hair match called "The Battle of the Billionaires", but Lashley won, so Trump didn't have to shave his head.

Reception

In March 2004, Ameet Sachdev of the Chicago Tribune wrote that Trump is "known for his gaudy casinos and unusual mane of copper hair". Trump has said that "I don't say my hair is my greatest strength in the world, but it's not terrible". In June 2004, John Eckberg of Esquire described his hair as "majestic" after glancing at it. In August 2008, Joshua Stein of Gawker said that his hair is "an island of placidity". In May 2011, Erik Hedegaard of the Rolling Stone wrote that his hair color is "the patriotic shade of amber waves of grain". New York Times columnist Frank Bruni noted that the color is hard to describe and that it changes from day to day.

There are costume vendors that sell the likeness of his hair as a wig. The caterpillar of the flannel moth Megalopyge opercularis became nicknamed "Trump caterpillar" after scientists published photos of a yellow coloured variant.

In September 2016 Jimmy Fallon in his show successfully asked Trump if he could "mess up" his hair, because if he became elected president afterwards this would be inappropriate.

Speculation

There have been several prominent examples of speculation about Trump's hair and his responses to that over the years.

• On February 27, 2004, a caller asked about the authenticity of Trump's hair during an interview with him on Larry King Live. King touched his hair and confirmed that "It's not a toupee" and "It's not a comb over."
• In his 2004 book, Trump: How to Get Rich, there is a chapter called "The Art of the Hair." where he says "I do not wear a rug. My hair is one hundred percent mine."
• On March 25, 2004, in a segment on the Late Show with David Letterman, wind was blown through his hair to make it stand up so he could claim that it was real.
• In January 2007, Ivanka Trump, his daughter, told People magazine that "I've heard all sorts of crazy things, but I can verify with complete conviction that it's not a hairpiece. It is what it is!"
• In May 2010, during an interview with Ryan Seacrest, fingers were run through his hair to prove that it is real.
• In December 2011, Megyn Kelly of Fox News tugged his hair to confirm that it is real.

In popular culture

• In 2007, Trump challenged Vince McMahon (owner of WWE) to a "Hair vs. Hair" match during WrestleMania 23. Each chose a wrestler to fight for them and the loser had to get their hair shaved. Trump won and got to shave McMahon.
• On May 19, 2009 Kacey Jones released an album titled Donald Trump's Hair.
