Dong-Ki Kim (Hangul: 김동기; born 22 May 1971) is a South Korean former professional footballer and coach. A defender, he played in the K League and later in Australia's National Soccer League, before moving into football development and coaching roles in South Korea.
Playing career
Korean league career
Kim began his professional career after graduating from Hansung University. In 1994, he signed with Daewoo Royals, then competing in the K League, and made 22 league appearances during his debut season.
Following the 1994 season, Kim transferred to Pohang Atoms, where he remained part of the first-team squad throughout the mid-1990s. While detailed appearance statistics from his time at Pohang are not comprehensively recorded in English-language sources, Korean records confirm his involvement with the club prior to his move overseas.
In 1998, Kim left South Korea to continue his playing career abroad.
Australia
Kim joined Adelaide City in Australia's National Soccer League for the 1998–99 season, making 27 starts and one substitute appearance, scoring two goals.[1] He remained with the club for the 1999–2000 season, appearing a further 28 times and scoring once.[1]
In the 2000–01 season, Kim played for Eastern Pride, the rebranded continuation of the former Gippsland Falcons NSL licence, and made 20 league appearances.[1]
He later competed in New South Wales state competitions with Bankstown City during the 2001–02 season.[1]
He finished his playing career with FC Bossy Liverpool in 2002.[1]
Post-playing career
After retiring as a player, Kim transitioned into football development and technical roles in South Korea. He held senior operational and development positions within the Korea Football Association between 2006 and 2018, before serving as a technical assistant within the national team structure.
In 2025, Kim joined Ulsan Hyundai as an assistant manager in K League 1.
