Doreen McAndrew DiDomenico is an American Democratic Party politician, who represents ([1]) District 1 on the Hudson County, New Jersey Board of Chosen Freeholders; one of nine members who serve in a legislative role administering all county business. District 1 includes the City of Bayonne and portions of the City of Jersey City. Her initial three-year term of office expired on December 31, 2014.
Doreen McAndrew grew up in the Greenville section of Jersey City, where she attended parochial schools. She attended St. John's University where she graduated summa cum laude in 1984 with a B.S. in Psychology and the President's Medal, and earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1995.
Dr. DiDomenico is a Licensed, Clinical Psychologist at Rutgers University, where she serves as Assistant Director of Project: NSTM. Through the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, she provides training and clinical supervision to doctoral students. She also serves as consulting psychologist to several agencies for persons with developmental disabilities. She lectures regularly at professional conferences locally and throughout the country on issues related to parent/professional collaboration for special needs children.
Dr. DiDomenico is the Coordinator of the Child and Adolescent Program at the Rutgers Anxiety Disorders Clinic, providing evaluations and psychotherapy to individuals struggling with anxiety. At the clinic, she also treats Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in Vietnam and Iraq veterans under a contract with the Veterans Administration.
She currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Windmill Alliance, and on the Board of Directors for the Bayonne Jewish Community Center. She was a Trustee with the Bayonne Board of Education (2000-2007) and was a member of the Board of the Bayonne Community Mental Health Center.
During her tenure on the Board of Chosen Freeholders, DiDomenico has served as Chair of the Environmental, Health and Human Services, and Women and Minority Issues Committees. She is also representing the Freeholders on the Meadowview Psychiatric Hospital Board of Managers and on the Hudson County Planning Board. She served as Chair Pro-Tempore (2007), Vice-Chair (2008), and Chair of the Board of Freeholders (2009).
Married to Jay DiDomenico, she is the parent of two daughters: Wendy, age 19 and Jaime, age 12, both students in Bayonne public schools.
