Double World is a 2020 adaptation of the Zhengtu video game.
Plot[edit]
In the fictional world of Central Plains where there are ten kingdoms. The kingdoms of South Zhao and North Yan have had a long conflict and with an assassination attempt on The King of North Zao causes war to brake out. With the lack of a Field Marshall a tournament is held to find a new one.[1]
Development[edit]
Developed by Teddy Chan,[2] the film is based on the MMORPG game called Zhengtu,[3] on a reported budget of $43 million.[4]
Release[edit]
The film was released on iQiyi in China on 24 July 2020 and in other territories via Netflix on 25 July 2020.[5][4] Yahoo Finance noted the film was an instant hit in China with 400 million views on its first day.[6]
Reception[edit]
James March of South China Morning Post reviewed the film giving a score of 2.5 out of 5.[2] Kung-Fu Kingdom gave a more favourable review with a score of 7 out of 10.[7]
