Douglas Scott Wreden (born: January 18, 1991), better known online as DougDoug, is an American YouTuber and Twitch streamer. He makes comedic gaming videos that mainly revolve around him doing various unorthodox gaming challenges, as well as videos where he explains various gaming-related topics with food as analogies. He currently resides in Washington state.[5]

History[edit]

Before YouTube[edit]

Doug used to work as an esports producer at Tempo Storm and ESL. He mostly worked on big Hearthstone tournaments like ESL’s Trinity Series or Blizzard’s Hearthstone Championship Tour. Before esports, he worked as a programmer, including 2 years working at EA. He has a Computer Science degree from UC Berkeley.[6][not in citation given]

YouTube[edit]

Doug created his channel in March 2008 under the username Gloudas but didn't start uploading videos until September 2015. His original videos were usually related to the online video game Hearthstone, but in September 2018, he changed his channel name to DougDoug and changed his content alongside it. He currently has over 1.8 million subscribers.[7][not in citation given]

Doug has since made content where he attempts to complete simple tasks in video games, such as completing a level in Super Mario Bros. or driving from one destination to another in GTA V, but in unconventional and challenging ways, such as using voice commands to control his character, while wearing a blindfold, or by letting his 'Twitch Chat' (his viewers on Twitch) control his in-game mods.[8] He also does challenges where he allows his Twitch Chat to play games by typing in commands and actions in the hopes of beating the game or level.[9][unreliable source?] One of his most popular gaming challenges was his “Mario HUD Speedrun Challenge," where every five minutes he had to layer additional HUD elements from randomly chosen games onto his streaming software overlay. His goal was to complete a successful Super Mario Odyssey speedrun despite the HUD and try to match his personal best time, which is just one hour, 11 minutes, and 21 seconds.[10] Doug is often credited with helping keep video game communities, such as Skyrim, alive.[11][unreliable source?]

He's also gained popularity because of his "...but explained with food" series where he explains gaming-related topics but with food as elaborate analogies. He also has a second channel called DougDougDoug, which consists of Twitch challenges that were not considered good enough for the main channel as well as other comedic videos and updates.[12][not in citation given]

Other Work[edit]

Friends til Death[edit]

Friends til Death is a podcast channel Doug started with fellow YouTuber Failboat in 2022 in which one of them would play a video game until they die, when they do the podcast ends instantly. The podcasts often last only a few seconds.[13][not in citation given]
