Down-wing politics
This article needs attention from an expert on the subject. The specific problem is: Not sure whether bright green environmentalism is a part of up-wing politics or not and whether up-down wing politics is really about environmentalism at all or rather more comprehensive ie progressive vs conservative. |
Down-wing politics refers to a political schema proposed by Fereidoun M. Esfandiary in his book "UpWingers: A Futurist Manifesto" and in the essay "Upwing Priorities" (in the now-defunct Future Life magazine). Down-wing politics looks down into the earth, and into the past. They seek to preserve the planet and proudly self-identify themselves as "Greens".[1][2][3][4] The greens want to curb the human aspirations to make them fit within what nature, in its Earthbound form, can reasonably be expected to sustain. They include such people as communitarians and traditionalists.[5]
Down-wing politics opposes up-wing politics. The latter looks to the sky, into the future and endorses universal progress. The latter is thus progressive, while down-wing politics is conservative. It sees a future for humanity beyond this planet. Up‑wingers, have begun to be colour-coded as "Blacks".[6][7]
