Dr. Annie Bell Weston was the first African American woman from South Carolina to be chosen as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. Former President, Harry S. Truman, named her to a national committee on the welfare of children and youth. Among many accomplishments, Weston's services in education and services work received recognition from the National Association of Colored Women, the S.C. Federation of Women for Education and Community Work, the National Council of Negro Women, and the National Alumni Association of Benedict College. Additionally, Weston served as an officer in the NAACP, the Order of Eastern Star, and the league of Women Voters. <ref: New York Times>
