Dr. Laura G. Murillo is a non-profit, business, and civic leader, and currently serves as the President and CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and serves as the Founding President and CEO of the Chamber’s Foundation.

Dr. Murillo is also a well-known television and radio personality. She is the founding executive producer and host for the Chamber’s television program Contacto on CBS, as well as Contacto en Español, its radio and TV program on Univision. Additionally, she is the founding executive producer and host for the Chamber’s radio program on CBS radio and is a frequent Telemundo political commentator.

She served as a senior executive director at Memorial Hermann, Texas Medical Center. She holds a B.A., a Masters Degree, and a Doctorate from the University of Houston.

Dr. Murillo was named among the “Most Powerful & Influential Women in Texas” and also received the “Top Latino Leader Award” by the National Diversity Council, “Woman of the Year” by Success Magazine, and the “International Leadership Award” by Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Dr. Murillo received her Bachelor's, Master’s, and Doctorate from the University of Houston where she went on to work as an Executive for more than 15 years. The University of Houston bestowed its highest honor - the President’s Medallion - to Dr. Murillo and her contributions to the Greater Houston region as the President & CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce[edit]

In 2007, Dr. Murillo was named President and CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

While running the Chamber, Dr. Murillo also founded the Great Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation in 2010. The Foundation houses and runs the Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) which has graduated over 200 young professionals across the Greater Houston region. As leader of the GHHCF, Dr. Murillo also serves as Executive Producer and Host for the Foundation's Radio and Television Programs on CBS, Entercom, Univision, and the KUBE57. The cumulative reach of this media network exceeds 3.3 million unique listeners and viewers.

Awards and Recognition[edit]

Dr. Murillo has received many many state, national and international honors for her work and impact on the community.

In 2014, she was honored with the “Hispanic Leadership Award” by the National Football League (NFL). In 2016, Dr. Murillo was featured in The Houston Chronicle’s 2016 “Women Who Run Houston”, and was named as ”Outstanding Service Honoree” by the Mexican-American Bar Association of Texas Foundation.

In 2017, her accolades included being named among the “Most Powerful & Influential Women in Texas” and a recipient of the “Top Latino Leader Award” by the National Diversity Council. She was also honored as a “Power 25 Houston Award” by Walker’s Legacy, “Woman of the Year” by Success Magazine, and received the “International Leadership Award” by Texas Women’s Empowerment Foundation. That year she was also a CKW LUXE “Top 20 Impact Maker Honoree” and recipient of the “Global Impact Award” by Global Seven.

The National MBA Organization has also honored Dr. Murillo with the “Excellence Award”, and D-mars.com named her as an “Icon Honoree.” She was also named “Top 10 Who’s Who in Business” and has been named among the “Top 5 C-Suite CEO’s” by the Houston Business Journal.

Community Service[edit]

Dr. Murillo is an active member of the community, and holds various leadership positions across a number of organizations in the Greater Houston region.
