Dr. Manish Ranjan (born 10 July, 1975) is a 2002 batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer from the Jharkhand Cadre. He is currently working as Deputy Commissioner (D.C.) cum District Magistrate (DM) at Khunti district of Jharkhand..[1] He was Director of Secondary Education, Department of School Education & Literacy, Government of Jharkhand from 2015 to April 2017.[2] Dr. Manish Ranjan is recipient of Prime Minister’s Award of “Excellence in MGNREGA” in Two Consecutive Years in 2008 and 2009, for work in Deoghar and Pakur districts in Jharkhand. In 2007, he was awarded by President of India for achieving the FIRST Fully Sanitized Panchayat in Alaudia of Latehar District of Jharkhand State. He is author of five Best Selling Books, “Decision Making and Problem Solving (Published by McGraw Hill)”, “Interpersonal Skills including Communication Skills (Published by Pearson), CSAT Volume I, CSAT Volume II (Published by Cengage Learning) and General Knowledge of Jharkhand.[3] He also writes articles for leading national dailies such as The Times of India; Hindustan Times; NavBharat Times, Prabhat Khabar, Dainik Jagran and The Evening News (HT) occasionally. Dr. Manish Ranjan has a phenomenal academic background and has been a topper throughout his educational career. He was the 9th topper in the Bihar Secondary Education Board (BSEB) in class 10th and was the State Topper in the Intermediate Council in Class 12th examinations. He completed his graduation from Hindu College, University of Delhi where he was topper in Sociology. He completed his Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) in 2007 in the faculty of Management and Commerce from Ranchi University.

Early Life and Education[edit]

He was born in Saran District,Bihar in 1975. He did his secondary education from Netarhat Public School, Netarhat, Palamue, Jharkhand and completed higher secondary education from Patna College,Patna, Bihar. He did his graduation from Hindu College, University of Delhi, wherein he was ranked 2nd in the University in B.A.(Honours) in Sociology. During his graduation days in University of Delhi, he was actively involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities such as debates, street play and music, etc. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management from Institute of Rural Management, Anand, Gujarat. From June 1998 to 2002 he worked as Assistant Executive (Institution Building Group) at National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand and NDDB, Pune, Maharastra. Later, he appeared for Civil Services examination and was topper among IAS officers of 2002 batch.

Career As a Civil Servant[edit]

Dr. Ranjan is a 2002 batch Jharkhand cadre officer of Indian Administrative Service. He started his career as Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Dumka Sub-division of Jharkhand. In February 2006, he was appointed as Deputy Development Commissioner (D.D.C.) of East Singhbhum, Jamshedpur and Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, East Singhbhum. Later in 2006, he was appointed as Deputy Commissioner (D.C.) of Latehar district of Jharkhand. In 2010, he was Director of Industries, Government of Jharkhand. During his tenure of Deputy Commissioner (D.C.) cum District Magistrate (DM) in Hazaribag district of Jharkhand[4] he was awarded Jharkhand Seva Ratna Award 2013 by Lok Sewa Samiti, Ranchi for working towards Communal Harmony. In June 2013, he was appointed as Mission Director of National Health Mission and State Project Director, Jharkhand State AIDS Control Society, Ranchi. He was awarded Skoch Order of Merit Medal in India’s Best – 2013 for initiative in the health sector named “Mamta Vahan MIS: Life Saving Link for Mothers and Infants” while being Mission Director, National Health Mission. In 2014, he was appointed as Labour Commissioner, Government of Jharkhand. He was Director of Secondary Education, Department of School Education & Literacy of Jharkhand from 2015 to April 2017. Currently he is Deputy Commissioner (D.C.) cum District Magistrate (DM), Khunti district of Jharkhand.
