Works and contributions
Innovative Projects
- SeedPaper
SEEDPAPER project was conceived and implemented by Dr Sumi Gupta for Tatsat Foundation. This unique innovation was developed by using SeedPaper made by mixing seeds with paper pulp, which can be recycled by sowing the paper in the soil that regenerates into a plant or a tree. The environment-friendly SEEDPAPER is ideally suited for printing bills, single-use packets as a replacement for plastic, visiting cards, gift wraps, writing pads, notebook covers, etc. The project was implemented in the ecologically fragile tourism hotspot[4] of Andaman & Nicobar Islands as part of the “Go Green”[5] campaign, initiated by Member of Parliament and Andaman and Nicobar Pradesh Congress President, Kuldeep Rai Sharma.[6]
The ‘Go Green’ campaign invites businesses and not-for-profit organisations to invest in the growth and resilience of small businesses and work directly in the grassroots development areas to achieve ecologically sustainable businesses in Andaman and Nicobar Islands that act as a powerful tool to generate awareness about climate change.
The far-reaching and direct impact of the SEEDPAPER project earned global recognition when Dr Gupta was bestowed with the prestigious Bharat Award, 2019[7] at the British Parliament for her pioneering innovation of the socially conscious project.
- Soil 2 Home
The project involved forging multiple technology partnerships for providing sanitation-integrated, disaster-resistant building technology solutions for cluster housing and public buildings with Prashak—a Delhi-based technology company and Asia Institute of Technology, which developed the patented technology.
This innovative technology enables the creation of state-of-the-art, disaster-resilient, environment-friendly, green and cost-effective building structures, using local materials and resources (unskilled manpower including women) with significantly lower use of cement and steel, resulting in a low carbon footprint and cost. Closed-loop sanitation is integrated into the project that significantly reduces the chances of groundwater contamination.
This project laid the foundation of SMARTGRAMS or Smart Villages[8] that directly impacted the lives of millions of people living in the villages and rural India.
Educational Project
- Developing Education Solutions for Social Sector
The project aims to streamline and formalise Social Welfare education in India by offering a structured curriculum, providing domain training and certification to new entrants who want to make a career in this growing sector and certifying the existing workforce.
This project aims to create an educational framework in association with the best national and international education institutions, specialising in the field of social welfare education.
This project intends to create key skill development programmes for which it will develop a curriculum that will become a standard course for the undergraduates, graduates and post-graduate certification programmes.
Another critical aim of this programme is to establish Centres of Excellence in partnership with reputed universities across India that will offer higher certification courses.
