Dread

Dread is a threat that you can encounter in The Hotel and The Mines.

Method

Dread spawns in a game if you stay in it for more than an hour. You will know that dread is coming if your screen suddenly becomes a circle instead of a rectangle. There is no real way to remove dread unless you use a Crucifix, which allows you another hour before dread spawns.

Strategy

Most professional players will refrain from looting after Jeff's Shop so that they don't take too long and accidentally summon dread. As well, most players will reserve their crucifix for the unlikely scenario that dread spawns. Dread will make all noises around you 10x louder, so when dread spawns, it is recommended to turn down your volume.

Information

If dread catches you, it instantly ends your run. Dread appears inside of the hotel and the mines, as well as Trick or Treat Vision, Cringle's Workshop, Rush Mode, Endless Mode, Daily Runs, and Battle Mode.
