Drillz The Rapper[1] is a Ugandan rapper, singer, songwriter and producer known for bridging the hip-hop and dancehall community with different styles of rap.
Biography
Ladong Emmanuel (born March 27, 1998), known professionally as Drillz (/drɪls/), is a Ugandan rapper, songwriter, and record producer majoring in not only hip hop but in dancehall as well as other genres.
Early life and career beginnings
Childhood
Drillz was born to a teacher, Danga James and Danga Acayo Patricia. He is the eldest of four children; with two younger brothers and one sister. He went to Rock View in Tororo, Uganda for infant school and St. Anthony for his primary school. The recording artist then joined SMACK (St. Mary's College Kisubi), Budo Secondary School, MACOS (Makerere College School) and Namirembe Hillside High School for secondary education. Drillz was enrolled at Makerere University where he studied Development Studies.[2]
Career beginnings
Drillz developed a passion for music at an early stage when he started as a dancer, grew up with the love of singing and eventually he became a rapper. With inspiration from artists like Wu-Tang Clan, J. Cole, JAY-Z, Eminem, Kanye West, Drillz mastered the skill of rap as he fuses both hip-hop and dancehall and still brings out the whole vibe with a sound of his own, which makes his sound truly unique & versatile. The Producer, Rapper, Singer, Songwriter released music all throughout 2019 and 2020, EP after EP, many of which include: – Blurry The EP, This Vibe EP, Waking Love Blue EP, one of Drillz's most successful releases, Wu-Tang (Intro) from the King X EP as it gathered multiple streams worldwide and was also inspired by the rappers Wu-Tang Clan with the series Wu-Tang: An American Saga.[3]
During the 2021 lockdown, Drillz released a single titled High Thoughts[4] which was off his upcoming EP, took up a challenge where he freestyled every week [5] then later released the EP titled High Thoughts[6] which gathered more attention in the Ugandan Hip-hop community as his sound was different and unique. He then released an afrobeat themed album titled This Vibe (Deluxe). Drillz started off 2022 by releasing another album titled Read Between The Line (RBTL) Again [7]
On the 17th of June 2022, Drillz released a single titled "Be Alive" a message about love, mental health, depression and society, and with this single, came the rebranding from Drillz to Drillz The Rapper officially.[8]
