Driton Halimi (born 28 October 2001)[1] is a North Macedonian karateka.[2] He has won many competitions from North Macedonia. He placed 7th in the 52 kg Kumite Male Cadet event at the Karate 1 WKF Youth Cup in Umag, Croatia.[3][4] He has also won first place at Sofia Cup competition in March 2022 [5] and Mustafë Blakaj Memorial Tournament in May 2022.[6]

Halimi is studying for a degree in Physical Education at the University of Tetova.[4]

Career and tournament wins[edit]

Halimi competed and placed in the 52kg Kumite Male Cadets event in the Karate 1 WKF Youth Cup in Umag, Croatia in 2017.[3][7] He also earned third place in the Kumite Male Cadets - 52 event at the Grand Prix Croatia tournament.[8] As a youth, Halimi continued competing in the Karate 1 Youth League from 2018-2019.[9]

Halimi won the State and Electoral Championship of North Macedonia in December 2021, qualifying for the European Karate Championships in 2022.[2][10][11] However, due to an overnight rule change, he was replaced as North Macedonia’s representative by Bojan Kostovdo.[2][11][12]

Halimi won first place in the international Sofia Cup competition in March 2022.[5] After the tournament, North Macedonia’s Deputy Director of the Directorate of Public Revenue, Abdul-Selam Selami, met with Halimi to congratulate him.[13]

Halimi also met with the mayor of Tetova, Bilall Kasami.[14]

Halimi also won the Mustafë Blakaj Memorial Tournament in May 2022.[6]

In June 2022, Halimi competed in the Balkan Championship.[15] After advancing to the semifinals following victories he was eliminated from the competition after losing to the representative from Bosnia and Herzegovina.[16]
