Dronacharya Gurukul (Devnagari: द्रोणाचार्य गुरुकुल) was a gurukul of the archery Guru Dronacharya in the Mahabharata. Presently, the Don Village in the Darauli block of the Siwan district in Bihar, India, is believed to be the location of the ancient Dronacharya Gurukul.[1] There is a high mound believed to be the place of the Gurukul in the village where a temple known as Guru Dronacharya Mandir attributed to the sage Dronacharya was established by the villagers. In the temple, a statue of Guru Dronacharya is installed.[2]
Description
According to the historian and researcher Krishna Kumar Singh, several important materials related to Acharya Dronacharya were excavated earlier by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The name of the village has been derived from the name Dronacharya.[3]
In legend, it is said that the Gurukul of the Guru Dronacharya was situated near the holy river Sarayu. Presently the village of Don is situated near about the bank of the Ghaghra river (also called as Surayu in Awadhi). It is only about seven kilometres in the north direction from the bank of the Sarayu river.[2]
Similarly, there is a village named Kukurbhokka three kilometers away from the Gurukul which is believed to be the place where Ekalavya pierced the dog's mouth with his arrows in the epic Mahabharata.[3]
