Drywall Tape (Otherwise Known As Plaster Jointing Tape) is a type of tape used to cover seams and cracks whilst performing drywall installation. It can be adhesive (otherwise known as Self-Stick) or can be used in combination with a joint compound.[1]
History[edit]
The start of drywall taping.[edit]
In 1939, two brothers, Robert Ames and Stan Ames created the first drywall taping tools when they were trying different ways to finish off their plastered drywall when they created the first drywall taping mechanism. These were the "Corner Shoe" which used air pressure to apply joint compund and the pre-cursor to the current automatic drywall tapers (Otherwise known as the bazooka).[2]
Creation of the modern drywall taping mechanism[edit]
Later on Robert Ames would invent the first automatic drywall taper (Which was battery powered and assisted the end user in drywall taping) in 1954.[3]
