ECOTIC

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

ECOTIC is a waste collection scheme working in the fields of recycling and e-waste collection (WEEE), based in Bucharest, Romania. It is the first organization of producers and importers of electric and electronic equipment in Romania.[1]

The organisation has established an infrastructure of more than 6,000 collection points throughout Romania, which are open to the public.[2]

The organization deals not only with e-Waste collection but also monitors the entire process of transport, dismantling and recycling of this type of waste. It has an active role in promoting the WEEELABEX standard, a European certificate that ensures compliance with European standards for the WEEE collection and recycling.[2]

In 2007, ECOTIC introduced “the Green Stamp which later became remuneration to cover the cost of WEEE Collection, reuse, recycling, recovery and disposal, and consumer awareness costs based on a fee in the sale of EEE products.”.[3]

The ECOTIC Caravan, a LIFE-funded project, was developed and implemented by ECOTIC. It featured a mobile exhibition showcasing “10 examples of dismantled, typical electronic devices, such as a washing-machine and mobile phone”.[4] In May 2018, the project was recognized as “Best Environment LIFE Project” by the LIFE Committee of the European Union, being the only Romanian project to receive the award. [5]

The national awareness campaign “Act in Romania like abroad” was implemented in 2020 and was meant to promote solutions available to the public for separate collection if e-Waste.
