EDM-pop (music genre)

EDM-pop is music genre, combining elements from electronic dance music and pop genres. While EDM is known for it's 'stand-alone' electronic beat, at EDM-pop the electronic beat is played through lyrics (mostly chorus). It is a variant of electropop music, the diffrence is that EDM-pop is usually highly danceable with emphasis on it's EDM beat. The genre became mainstream in late 2000s and 2010s.

Artists who used this genre include Britney Spears, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and more.

Origins in the late 1970s[edit]

Pop groups as ABBA already blended disco and pop music in late 1970s. ABBA made their debut in Disco-pop genre with their #1 hit Dancing Queen.

2000s breakthrough[edit]

In 2004 Britney Spears released Toxic as second single from her studio album In The Zone. The song was one of very first edm-pop hit songs. In 2007 she released her fifth studio album Blackout which was full of EDM and EDM-pop songs. Latter include Piece Of Me, Break The Ice and more. Spears also released her 2008 EDM-pop album Circus which was full of hits as Circus, Womanizer and If U Seek Amy.

Other artists also experimented the genre with songs as Sexyback by Justin Timberlake, Disturbia by Rihanna,...

EDM-Pop becomes mainstream in 2010s[edit]

A lot of other worldwide megahit songs as Criminal, ...Ready For It?, Look At Her Now, Focus are EDM-pop as well.
