EIRENE Research Insfrastructure

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

EIRENE Research infrastructure (EIRENE RI: Research Infrastructure for EnvIRonmental Exposure assessmeNt in Europe) was designed as a geographically balanced network of distributed research infrastructures. The EIRENE RI consists of 17 National Nodes representing c. 50 institutions with a complementary scientific expertise and research capacities.

EIRENE RI is the first ESFRI research infrastructure, which is coordinated by the Czech Republic. The EIRENE RI is coordinated by the RECETOX Research Centre, at Faculty of Science of Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic.

Background and scientific merit

EIRENE RI aims to fill the existing gap in the European infrastructural landscape and introduces the first EU infrastructure focused on the research of human exposome (environmental determinants of health). The consortium is represented by the scientists dealing with Environment & Health research to advance new scientific developments and establish a large-scale interdisciplinary research providing harmonised workflows covering all processes between the data and sample collection and knowledge provided to the end users (sampling strategies, experimental and bioinformatic tools) accessible to academic researchers, private companies, public authorities and citizens through the EIRENE open-access system and the EIRENE knowledge hub. This approach will lead to improved understanding of the impact of the exposome on the European population, characterization of the risk factors behind development of chronic conditions, and discovery of novel tools for their prevention and treatment.

Consortium

The consortium covers the regions of Northern (Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden), Western (Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, UK), Southern (Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Spain) and Central and Eastern (Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia) Europe and US. The EIRENE RI team consists of the scientists leading the exposome research internationally. The National Nodes are represented by following institutes and institutions:
