Emmanuel Priye Michael (born in Rivers State, Nigeria), known professionally as OG Emmy, is a Nigerian-born Afrobeat and Afrodancehall artist based in London, United Kingdom. Active since 2021, he has released two extended plays and several singles that blend Afrobeat, dancehall, and pop influences. His work has been covered by media outlets including The Guardian Nigeria, Pulse Nigeria, Earmilk, and GRM Daily, and he has performed live in the United Kingdom.
Early life
Emmanuel Priye Michael was born and raised in Rivers State, Nigeria. He began writing and performing music as a teenager and relocated to the United Kingdom, where he later pursued a professional career in music.[1]
Career
OG Emmy released his debut extended play (EP), Sipping Remy, in 2021. The project was featured by Nigerian music platform NotJustOk,[2] and reviewed by NewLeaseMusic, which praised its production collaborations.[3]
In 2023, he issued the single Black Girl Magic, a collaboration with British-Nigerian artist Naze. The release received coverage from GRM Daily and Mixtape Madness,[4][5] and he was interviewed by Wordplay Magazine.[1] The single also premiered on *Earmilk*, which highlighted his growing presence across the African diaspora scene and noted his live performances supporting artists such as Goya Menor and Mayorkun.[6]
Later in 2023, OG Emmy released his second EP, Desire, which was covered in The Guardian Nigeria as well as music publications including Album Talks and Culture Custodian.[7][8][9]
In 2024, he followed with singles such as Kitkat (featuring Ghanaian producer Magnom) and Ginger (featuring Nigerian artist Smada). He also released collaborations including Got It (with A20 Wida Henney), Moves (with Demi), and Deeper.
OG Emmy has released music videos for tracks including Gbese and Kitkat, and has performed live in the United Kingdom, including at XOYO Birmingham.
In August 2025, he released the Afrodancehall single My Baby, produced by Spykida. The song was highlighted in The Guardian Nigeria for blending Caribbean grooves with Afrobeats,[10] and was also featured in Pulse Nigeria.[11]
Reception
Critics have praised OG Emmy’s fusion of Afrobeat and dancehall. *We Write About Music* described Black Girl Magic as “joyful and unifying, creating an instant celebratory atmosphere.”[12] *Earmilk* highlighted his growing reputation across the African diaspora scene in the UK.[6] *The Guardian Nigeria* praised his 2025 single My Baby for its “vibrant Afrodancehall rhythm with Caribbean grooves.”[10]
