Jack Starr (born April 25, 1987), better known by his stage name ENGENEER (often stylized as ENGENEƎR), is an Israeli rapper, composer, songwriter, and record producer from Holon. He is the owner of RCP Media, LLC, founded in September 2005. He has worked with many local hip-hop artists and pioneers, such as KLIN and DJ MESH (of SADYLE), Avital Tamir of Betzefer, Kunteynir, Klee Magor (of Riviera Regime), and Necro.

Biography

ENGENEER was born in Moscow, Russia, and grew up there until 2000, when he moved to Israel. In his early career, he lived in Holon. He began his musical career at age 14, playing covers of famous hip-hop tracks and bands. He started rapping in 2004 after being influenced by his friend, rapper KLIN. He made his first demo in 2004 and won a demo battle contest at Vortex Club.

In 2006, he started to work on his solo projects, along with his side project Skin Spin. In 2007, he released his first solo album, 2BA. In 2008, he took 3rd place in another hip-hop contest, Epicenter[1]. Afterward, he released his new single "WARNING". At the end of 2008, ENGENEER was jailed for the first time in his life.

After his release from prison, he founded the hip-hop supergroup "RCP" and started to work on their debut album, In Your Face, released in 2011. They gained much attention after their appearance at Formula Festival [2]. He also worked with Sadyle on a new split record, Ya Izer, released in 2010.

Drug Overdose

In 2012, ENGENEER was working on his second solo album, Самый Брутальный Альбом. He signed a distribution contract with Audiolife, LLC later that year. Shortly afterward, he was admitted to Wolfson Hospital with a drug overdose. Doctors there said he had ingested the equivalent of two bags of heroin and was "about a few hours from dying".

Recovery

By mid-2013, having successfully rehabilitated from drugs, ENGENEER returned to managing his label. He signed a contract with "Trupack Records" and collaborated with their artists and projects. At the end of the year, he released his third solo album, Каратель Земель Палестины. Later that year, he collaborated with KLIN, Avital Tamir (of Betzefer and Quami de la Fox), and produced their track "Revolution". They released an official music video a year later.[3]

On August 21, 2015, ENGENEER was arrested a second time on drug-selling charges. He was released after spending a few months in jail.
