eRegime is an internet forum devoted to discussion and simulation of political history and ideology. Though its roots lie in its historical simulations run by its founder, Ismail, on other forums such as Something Awful, as well as the forums for the community of Paradox_Interactive as far back as 2001, the site itself did not come about as an individual community until February 2012. [1] This was in part because of the popularity of a new game type created by its founder, Balance of Power, which was inspired by a 1985 computer strategy game based around Cold War geopolitics of the same name. Balance of Power and other similar simulations featured a play-by-mail style popular in alternative history forums.
The community of eRegime features members from around the world, including members from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, Australia, and Vietnam.
Notable Games
Balance of Power remains the most notable game in the eRegime community, having run through over thirty successive versions lasting several months each. [2] However, various "country simulations" have achieved popularity on the site and in the community's past on other forums based on events such as the Katanga Crisis, the interwar period of Albania, the Mexican Revolution, Afghanistan, and Somalia. [1][3] These have been hosted by members of the community as well as the founder.
Notable Achievements
eRegime is the birthplace of the game Bloc, an MMO Cold War simulation gaming community run by the Oppressive Gaming Company. [4]
