History[edit]

Prior to 2000, media company Ziff Davis was a pioneer in technology-themed publications starting with magazines like Popular Electronics and PC Magazine. After reorganization during the dot-com bubble, Ziff Davis Media Inc. was born along with several new websites focused on technology including eSecurity Planet.

In 2001, American media company CNET purchased ZDNet and Ziff Davis's additional properties for $1.6 billion, but several URLs returned shortly thereafter to Ziff Davis.[2] In February 2012, QuinStreet acquired the media assets of Ziff Davis Enterprise, including eSecurityPlanet.com, eWeek.com, CIOInsight.com, Baseline.com, ChannelInsider.com, WebBuyersGuide.com, and others.[3]

In May 2020, TechnologyAdvice acquired 39 digital media properties and editorial staff from QuinStreet.[4]
