The Early 1989 Demos refers to a series of self-released cassette demos produced by The Smashing Pumpkins, which were distributed and sold by the band during their early performances in Chicago, Illinois, in 1989. These self-released demos were their final releases until their first single "I Am One" in 1990, and later their first album Gish in 1991. In 1995, these songs were compiled into a commercial bootleg and sold by the record label "Chance Records, Inc."[1][2]

- All songs are written and sung by Billy Corgan, with the exception of "Daughter", where D'arcy Wretzky is credited with writing in the liner notes of the Moon Demo.[3]
- The 4 spoken tracks are poems presented by a woman's voice and are spoken in Spanish, each lasting less than a minute.
- Light Into Dark is a compilation album of various songs by Chicago alternative rock bands, released in 1989 as well. It was the only official release of "Sun" and "My Dahlia" until the 2012 reissue of Pisces Iscariot, with "Sun" being included in the bonus cassette of the deluxe reissue.

Around 400 cassettes with handwritten labels were created for booking purposes and distributed to people close to the band as well as at least one radio station.[4]
