Earth Anthem (Abhay Kumar song)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Earth Anthem is a poem-song by Indian poet and diplomat Abhay Kumar, recorded in eight languages including all official languages of the United Nations, namely Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish,[1] as well as Hindi and Nepali. Its first line "Cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl" has been quoted by the editorial board of Christian Science Monitor to invoke our planet as "the one and mutual home of all humanity, the stage for the whole human story, surrounded by a void of seemingly endless space which merits tender, thoughtful care." [2] It is intended to be an anthem for the planet Earth. Renowned violinist L. Subramaniam has composed music for it and renowned Bollywood playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy has sung it.[3][4] It has been lauded by Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi.[5] It was performed by the Symphony Orchestra of Cláudio Santoro National Theater, Brasilia in February 2018.[6]

Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl
the most beautiful planet in the universe
all the continents and all the oceans
united we stand as flora and fauna
united we stand as species of one earth
diverse cultures, beliefs and ways
we are humans, Earth is our home
all the people and all the nations
all for one and one for all
united we unfurl the blue marble flag.

"Earth Anthem" by Abhay Kumar[7]

It was launched in June 2013 on the occasion of the World Environment Day by Kapil Sibal and Shashi Tharoor, then Union Ministers of India, at a function organized by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations in New Delhi.[8] It is supported by the global organization Habitat For Humanity.[9]

India's Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE has used it for educational purposes.[10][11][12] Earth Anthem has also been used by partner schools of British Council Schools Online,[13] Regent School, Abuja,[14] Assam Valley School,[15] Euro School, Kathmandu[16] and Loreto Day School, Kolkata[17] among others.

The 3rd Nepal-Africa Film Festival opened in Kathmandu, Nepal with the screening of the song.[18][19] Hollywood actor Robert Lin has called the song a “great concept and certainly a forever theme to be written and sung about.”[20] Indian film-maker Shyam Benegal has called multi-language lyrics extremely inspiring.[21] The US Consul General Jennifer McIntyre has called Kumar's Earth Anthem a significant contribution to Earth Day and truly an anthem for the Earth.[22] Academy Award winner Hollywood director Jeffrey D. Brown called it a joyous celebration of common humanity.[23]

"Habitat for Humanity"[25]

"Vedas- the first book of universal knowledge and wisdom says, 'Bhumi Mata Putroaham'- which means 'Earth is my mother, I am her son'. This is one of the essences of ancient Indian philosophy. Every effort to protect and respect mother earth is an effort to protect ourselves and our generations to come. The Earth Anthem is a beautiful effort in this direction. Thanks to all. Best wishes to Abhay Ji.

"Kailash Satyarthi"[26]

"The idea of an Earth Anthem is an excellent one which I fully endorse, Abhay Kumar's multi-language lyric is extremely inspiring and can easily be made into an official anthem for our beautiful planet."- Shyam Bengal, Winner Dada Saheb Phalke Award Winner[27]
"Our planet needs an official earth anthem..,a song that every one across the world can sing, along with ones national anthems.I commend the effort made by poet-diplomat abhay k towards getting an official anthem for our planet."- Manisha Koirala, Actress[28]

"I am very very happy to do this Earth Anthem, and very happy that Mr. Abhay has written and put so much effort to make this happen. I think if people start listening to it and understanding what it is about, what lyrics are about, what its sound and emotions are about, its like we are all one, happily we are living on the earth, Earth is ours, its not that you're different, I'm different, we can be from different places, it has set depth to the whole thing, the concept. So if people understand, it will change the mentality of the man as generally music is the universal language

"Dr. L. Subramaniam"[30]

"I just listened to Abhay K's lovely 'Earth Anthem' - what a joyous celebration of our common humanity. The blue pearl is something many yoga traditions have us meditate to find - wonderful to realize this is also our beloved planet Earth.

"Jeffrey D. Brown"[31]

"...a global consciousness has certainly begun to emerge. To tap into this nascent consciousness and give it form and focus, we need to establish a common language and common icons. In time, then, emerging generations of global citizens would come to rally around these, in realizing their debt to and in paying tribute to the planet that sustains us all. What better icon, then, than our planet itself, and what more universal language than music!...an Earth Anthem shared and sung by all the peoples of the world."- Dr. Shashi Tharoor[32]
