East City Giants, or ECG, are an American football team from Helsinki, Finland, originally based in the East Helsinki side. The club was founded in 1979 and is thus Finland's first American football club.[1] With the exception of a nine-year hiatus from 2002 to 2010, the club’s American football division has been active throughout its history to this day. Helsinki Velodrome is the team's home field.[2]
During its seasons in the Vaahteraliiga, the ECG has won a total of 13 medals (6 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze). ECG's greatest years of success lie in the 1990s, when the team played for 6 consecutive years at Vaahteraliiga. Of these, ECG won 4.3 times in the finals, the Turku Trojans fell and once again the Helsinki Roosters. In addition, the achievements include the Nordic Championship of 1986.[3]
