The East Coast Canal is a series of canals along the east coast of Indian mainland. It is a significant stretch of India's National Waterway 5.
- The East Coast Canal originates from Goenkhali on river Hooghly 70 kms downstream of Kolkata Port and joins Matai river at Charbatia, Odisha.
- The East Coast Canal is connected to Cuttack & other trade centres of Odisha through delta rivers, irrigation canals and creeks.
- The distance between Kolkata and Cuttack via Bhadrak is 507 km and via Paradeep is 532 km.
- Important trade centres on the East Coast Canal are Kendrapara, Marshaghai, Patamundai, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore.[1]
