Eclipse Dirigible is an open source project that provides a Cloud Development Platform for building web applications using Rapid Application Development (RAD) techniques. It provides both development tools (Web IDE) and Application Server.

Eclipse Dirigible is based on a flexible development model, also known as the In-System Development Model, which allows for dynamic alteration of the existing development environment.

    History

The Dirigible project originated from an internal SAP initiative to address extension and adaptation use cases related to SOA and Enterprise Services.

    Features

    • Database Management - modeling and automation for database schema artifacts (tables, views, data).
    • JavaScript Services - developing server-side JavaScript services against the Enterprise JavaScript API and executed by one of the three integrated engines - Mozilla Rhino, Nashorn, and V8.
    • Web Pages - design and develop HTML5 front-end applications using predefined templates.
    • Wiki Pages - writing documentation as part of the applications based on Markdown format rendered by the Eclipse Mylyn engine.
    • Mobile Applications - building native mobile applications based on the Tabris.js framework.

    License

The project source code is provided under the Eclipse Public License 1.0.
