Edwin Ibañez (born February 04,1980) better known as Ed Ibanez is a notable Filipino journalist, columnist, photographer and endorser based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He was born on February 4, 1980 in Bacong Anda Bohol, Philippines. His mother is Nenita Ibañez from Anda, Bohol who is currently based in Connecticut, United States of America. His father is Deoniro Ibañez an artist painter, from Zamboanga. He is the youngest of 5 siblings. His eldest brother Dr. Wilson Ibañez is an Athletic Director and teacher in Cebu Normal University in Cebu City, Philippines. His only one sister Basilides is based in Connecticut United States of America who is currently working as a registered nurse. While his 2 brothers are graduate of Seaman course. He is one of the successful Boholanos[1] listed under Journalism achievement. Ed has currently a regular column in Kabayan Weekly Newspaper entitled Branded Pinoy of the Week,[2] the first Filipino Newspaper in United Arab Emirates. His column is considered to be the most read section in Kabayan Weekly Newspaper. He has been covering events, sports and interviewed icons from local and international. He had interviewed the legendary NBA star Hakeem Olajuwon during his visit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in Al Jazira Club. He also had a chance to interview Filipino celebrities and political icons such as Jm "Cho" Ibañez, Star Magic member Marlo Mortel,> Gary Valenciano, Vina Morales, Sarah Geronimo and many others. He got the chance to know better and featured some (PBA) Philippine Basketball Association players from different teams like NLEX Road Warriors, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and other teams of PBA. One of them is Borgie Hermida. His interview with Philippine National Football Team popularly knows as Azkals was considered as one of his biggest breaks as a journalist. He is very supportive in promoting Filipino athletes such as teams previously mentioned and the Batang Gilas where he had conducted interview with the team captain ball Big Mike Nieto, his twin brother Matt Nieto and Jolo Mendoza members of Batang Gilas and Ateneo Eaglets. He also wrote featured stories and concerts of singers like Gary Valenciano, Luke Mejares, Aiza Seguerra, Ely Buendia and other popular singers. Among the concerts he featured were the concerts[3] of Kamikazee held in Abu Dhabi, UAE and Side A Band. He was the one who wrote the article of the country's very popular family oriented teleserye ABS-CBN's Be Careful with my Heart during their world tour in Middle East. He started modeling at the age of 17. He appeared in TV Commercials both in abroad and in the Philippines. Ed is known to help the Overseas Filipino Workers in need. He wrote articles with significant information especially for OFW's. He also joined several acting workshops with indie film directors in the Philippines Dave Cecilio. He has travelled several countries like in France, Germany and Singapore to look for a Filipino achiever to be part of his write-ups.

Personal life[edit]

He graduated in high school at the Holy Name University, the top Catholic school run by (SVD) Divine Word Missionaries in Tagbilaran City Bohol in 1997. He attended college at the University of San Carlos. During his college, he used to be a working student at Jollibee, the leading fastfood chain in the Philippines. He won his first essay writing contest in elementary which he was not the official contestant during the competition but he was the on the spot replacement since the original representative got sick. He worked for four years as call center agent in Makati City before he left to Dubai as an Overseas Filipino Contract Workers. He has been active in charity activities and humanitrianism at the age of 9 both in the Philippines and abroad. He features Filipino achievers in abroad like the world's renown Filipino financial adviser Liezl-Quiliza Cruz, Luz Galvez and Noel Panganiban Yambao. He is also writing sports news such as basketball and other sports.
