Edel Creely

Edel Creely is an Irish engineer, entrepreneur and managing director of the company Trilogy Technologies.

Early life[edit]

Creely was born in Dublin and grew up in Terenure.[1] She is the youngest of five children. Her father ran a Spar supermarket. Growing up she played the violin and now regularly plays with the Hibernian Orchestra.[2][3] Despite her musical interests, Creely choose to study mechanical and electrical engineering in Trinity College Dublin when she was 17.[3]

After college, Creely travelled to Guyana in South America and started working for Guyana Airways. While she was there she taught maths and music for a short while, and later travelled around Europe playing music.[1]

Career[edit]

In 1993, Creely began work with Datapac, an IT service provider. She worked as commercial director of its systems division before she was appointed managing director in 2008.[4]

In 2009, Creely co-founded Trilogy Technologies, an IT managed and cyber security services company, following the acquisition of IT focus and the merger of Team DBA[5]. In 2014, Creely expanded her company to the English market by acquiring b2Lateral which gave them a strong presence in the City of London.[6][7] On 17 September 2018, Trilogy Technologies further expanded through the acquisition of Zinopy Security, a cybersecurity provider. [8]

Creely is an advocate for indigenous Irish technology sector. She served eight years on the Irish Software Association (ISA), a precursor to Ibec, and was chair from the years 2013-2015.[9][10] In 2015 Creely was appointed to the Board of Ibec and in the year following she was honored with the position of Deputy Director . In 2017, Creely would then become the president of Ibec.[2][11]

In 2017, she was appointed President of the Board of Irish Business and Employers Confederation (Ibec)[1]. She was awarded the TechExcellence Person of Year 2017 for recognition of work in her field.[12]

Creely has been a member of Enterprise Ireland’s Advisory Group on strategy for the software sector 2015-2020 and has helped the government with their ICT Action Plan to increase the output of ICT graduates.[13][14] She also serves as a non-executive director on the board of the Marie Keating Foundation, a cancer awareness charity.[9]
