Career[edit]
Edi Dubien transforms sadness into vital momentum. A generative momentum of transspecies relationships, hybrid loves, plural bodies. From child to young man, the artist represents performative organisms. A human of a thousand natures whose bodily envelope infuses into the living. A body that gives itself the possibility of becoming different, of meeting, embracing or embracing what we have put aside for too long. Edi Dubien explodes the opposition between what would be nature on the one hand and culture on the other. Here everything is brought together in the same circularity, the same eternal and timeless metamorphosis. The artist also discards the notion of savage in favor of a hospitable, benevolent, protective, abundant, comforting living being. An ecosystem where all beings recognize each other. So, his works (re)call us with sweetness and power. They affect us permanently. In contact with them, we understand and remember that we all belong to the same living, vulnerable, sensitive and changing community. Julie Crenn

The artist has gradually built a universe where the living, as a whole, is put in relation. Nature is envisaged there without hierarchy, without category, without domination between beings. Donna Haraway writes: “In the legendary land called the West, nature, however unpredictable and contradictory its manifestations, has long been the key operator of founding discourses. Nature is what enhances culture. It is the zone of constraints, of what is given, of matter as a resource; nature is the raw material necessary for human action, the field for the imposition of choice and the corollary of the spirit. Nature has also served as a model for human action; or acting unnaturally is generally not considered a healthy, moral, legal thing, or a good idea. “[2] Nature crosses and nourishes an imagination and a story of which the artist explores each stage. Rejecting the traditional nature/culture opposition, it is fully part of the Living, at the heart of an ecosystem in perpetual evolution, of a territory under construction where the fixity of beings and things is impossible. In this sense, the artist relentlessly explores the moment of childhood, the beginnings of the body, its structuring and its performance. If in a traditional way, childhood is determined as an ideal moment where innocence and carelessness are queens, the artist escapes the commonplaces by injecting into it disorder, cruelty, melancholy, fear and fragility. As a child I had no right to cry, crying is freedom and the start of rebellion. his works attest to a moment marked by an extreme dichotomy where ferocity meets poetry, innocence dialogues with violence. Life and death constantly intersect there, they fight, mock, bite, kiss and collide. Julie Crenn
