Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home opened in 1884, rescuing pets from all corners of Edinburgh and the Lothians.
History[edit]
First opened as "The Edinburgh Home for Lost and Starving Dogs and Cats" in 1884 by William Chambers to help rescue stray and abandoned dogs and cats in the city.
Campaigns[edit]
The centre actively seeks new homes for dogs and cats and campaigns for their welfare and has appeared on TV shows such as This Morning.[1]
In 2019, the charity launched a pet foodbank to help those in the area struggling to feed their animals. The scheme also offered owners leads, collars, bowls and bedding.[2]
In 2020, the charity launched "Paddocks by the Prom", three enclosed fields on Portobello Beach where dogs who may have issues with recall or socialising with other dogs could run off lead.[3]
